Exploring Environments that Nurture Language and Literacy

One of Southwest Human Developmentís literacy experts will teach parents how to create a language-rich environment at home, and how to integrate reading and talking into bedtime, bath time, and outside of the home in locations such as the grocery store or mall. Parents/caregivers will also learn about the importance of routines and predictability in childrenís lives. This workshop is deigned for children ages birth to five plus a parent/caregiver and includes story time, an art activity, singing and dancing. Each child will receive a new book to take home. The program is designed to teach parents about the importance of a child's early experiences to the wiring of his or her brain in a fun, informal learning setting where play is emphasized. Children birth to 8 months old plus a parent/caregiver are welcome. Admission into the program is free with paid Museum admission. Space is limited.†

I Love You to Pieces! Picture Frame

Create your very own "I love you to pieces" puzzle frame in celebration of National Puzzle Day. Use puzzle pieces to decorate a frame for your child's photo or artwork! This project makes an adorable gift for upcoming Valentine's Day or any occasion. Admission into the program for each child participant is $4 for members and $5 for non-members. Museum admission is not included.
Through gentle yoga stretches, touch, music, and singing, caretakers and babies are encouraged to bond with one another to support the emotional well being of baby, as well as, stimulate the nervous system through sensory activities that support touch, and movement. Both baby and parent will participate in repetitive soothing motions of relaxation techniques, constructive play, and experience some yoga poses and practice breathing to embrace and celebrate the developmental milestones in the first year of the babyís life. Class is designed for children ages 5 months through 15 months and is taught by Anna Blocher-Rubin. Admission into the program is free with paid Museum admission. Space is limited.

Introduce your young child to the countless benefits of yoga in this specially designed class that uses games, music, stories and play to explore postures, balance and breath.
