In this series of programs, you and your child will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on, messy play at the Museum. The best part is that we do the clean-up, so you don’t have to! Children ages 12 to 24 months plus a parent/caregiver are welcome. Please note: You may wish to bring a change of clothes for your little one, since we do get involved in hands-on messy play in this program! Admission into the program is $8 per child for members and $10 per child for non-members. Space is limited.

Zap! Your child will turn into a mysterious super hero after they decorate their own mask! Add lightning bolts, stars, and lots of sparkle to make your mask shine. We'll provide the masks and plenty of materials to embellish it. Admission into this program for each participant is $2 members and $3 for non-members.
 
Special Night of Play

Special Night of Play is an evening for families with children affected by special needs, allowing them access to the museum during a less-crowded and more peaceful atmosphere compared to our regular business hours.

There are a very limited amount of tickets available via phone or email. To reserve your spot or get on our waiting list, please call 602.648.2151. tickets will be assigned to one of the four following time frames:
4:30pm | 5:00pm | 5:30pm | 6:00pm.
Check-in on the night of the event will correspond with the time on your ticket.

 
Baby Yoga
Baby Yoga 08/27/2017 To 09/24/2017
Through gentle yoga stretches, touch, music, and singing, caretakers and babies are encouraged to bond with one another to support the emotional well being of baby, as well as, stimulate the nervous system through sensory activities that support touch, and movement. Both baby and parent will participate in repetitive soothing motions of relaxation techniques, constructive play, and experience some yoga poses and practice breathing to embrace and celebrate the developmental milestones in the first year of the baby’s life. Class is designed for children ages 5 months through 15 months and is taught by Anna Blocher-Rubin. Admission into the program is free with paid Museum admission. Space is limited.
 
Toddler and Parent Yoga

Introduce your young child to the countless benefits of yoga in this specially designed class that uses games, music, stories and play to explore postures, balance and breath. Quality time with a parent is an added bonus! Class is designed for children ages 15 months through three years and is taught by Anna Blocher-Rubin.

Make a special keepsake in this program where your child's artwork will be added to a pillar candle! Children will be able to draw their own art, and program staff will assist your child in getting it onto the candle. Makes a fantastic gift for Grandparents Day! One of Southwest Human Development’s literacy experts will educate parents on the importance of sharing family stories as a way to enhance early language and literacy, and the use of storytelling to preserve culture and heritage.   Parents will share special stories about their own families and the trainer will discuss ways to extend these memories into make-believe, predictions, and print. This workshop is designed for children ages birth to five plus a parent/caregiver and includes story time, an art activity, singing and dancing.  Each child will receive a new book to take home. www.swhd.org.  Admission into the Museum is FREE when you pre-register for this program.

Get Ready to Read! Early Literacy Screenings for 3-5 year olds 09/30/2017

Is your child ready for Kindergarten? Get Ready to Read! is an early literacy program designed to help parents ensure that young children are equipped with the fundamental skills necessary for learning to read. The goal of Get Ready to Read! is to screen children between the ages of 3 years, 6 months - 5 years, 11 months, for pre-reading skills before they enter kindergarten and provide skill-strengthening activities to ensure their reading success. Each screening takes about 10 minutes and the kids walk away with pre-reading exercises as well as a free book.
